I was not sure where to begin on how great full we are that the lord blessed us with the gift you delivered. In trying times we tend to questions how and why things go the way that they do.
When our daughter Rori was born everything seemed perfect until about 20hrs after she was born, at that time we learned that our daughters heart was beating 285bpm. Watching my daughter lay in the NICU and not being able to do anything to help her as a parent is terrifying. After a few tense days in the NICU we were sent home to very quickly have that joy shattered by our daughter being back in the NICU and then Flown by Medi-flight from Modesto to Sacramento. At this time we were lost as far as how we were going to be able to be close to our daughter and still be able to maintain our mental and physical health as we dealt with the stress of feeding every three hours and spending as much time by our daughters side as possible while being so far from home. After getting to the NICU in Sacramento we were informed that our daughter has Wolff-Parkinson’s-white syndrome, at that time we did not know how long we would be in Sacramento or where we would stay.
When my wife told me that she contacted you and that you had accepted her application, we were so relieved to know that one of the many obstacles on the long journey we were about to endure was out of the way. From the moment we walked in to the house we were instantly able to decompress from the stress for the time being, refresh our mind and our bodies, (we slept in the back of our suburban for the first two NICU stays) with a comfortable bed and a warm shower. The process was simple, and effortless and the house was safe and clean. We were able to feel at home as soon as we walked in.
It seems that no matter where our struggles lead us in life god will put the necessary people on our path to help us through, and your blessing to my wife and I is now our reminder to that fact!
From my wife and I, I want to thank you for your generosity from the bottoms of my heart.
Words cannot express my gratitude as a social worker, for the support received from Hattie’s House. Working with stem cell transplant patients, we are faced with life and death treatment in addition to many social challenges. Andy and Hattie’s House have provided much needed comfort and support without stipulation for so many of my patients. Hattie’s House provides a safe haven and a home away from home. My patients receive peace and comfort knowing they have a place to stay while they receive their transplant and daily treatments.
In a world of limited resources, Hattie’s House has provided support for patients regardless of their income, which is truly unique, as we know cancer knows no financial boundaries. I cannot fully described how profoundly Hattie’s House has impacted the lives of my patients. I cannot describe how deeply the mission, service and compassion from Andy Albrecht and Hattie’s House has impacted me – personally and professionally. Andy, through Hattie’s House, serves our community in immeasurable ways and I can only hope to see them grow into what becomes a large resource for our patients in what is arguably their most desperate time of need.
Providing support to Hattie’s House or working with Hattie’s House only serve to improve your patients’ quality of life, decrease social barriers to treatment, and serves our society with tremendous compassion while allowing patients to maintain dignity and have some sense of comfort.
Please feel free to contact us about my experiences working with Andy and Hattie’s House.

Dear, Mr. Andy,
God answered my prayers by sending me an Angel called Andy, who blessed me with a miracle of somewhere to stay while I was having my Bone Marrow Transplant in Sacramento, California.... There's no way that I can repay you for all the kindness you have showed me, my family, and my friends. I want to say thank you to Hattie’s House, Megan & Sutter Medical and all those in Sacramento that support & surrounded this incredible gift of housing for families like mine
I also wanted to share some good news I just received....my transplant worked I'm in remission for the next 6 to 10 years now. I’ll go back in 4 years for another Bone Biopsy to check if it's still in remission. Yea!!! God is so Good
Thank you Andy & friends of Hattie’s House
After receiving treatment in the hospital for numerous weeks following an unexpected emergency surgery I was excited to finally be discharged. I was looking forward to being able to continue healing and resting in the comfort of my own home. I was disappointed to learn that although discharged, my doctors required me to remain in San Diego, close to the hospital, for a week until my first follow up appointment. Having to adjust to the post surgery care I required, and now having to worry about where to stay and how to get through the upcoming week, I was not sure what to do.
Unsure of where to turn and not from the area, my parents and I came across Hattie’s House. We were matched up with a wonderful host family and were so blessed to be able to stay there for the duration of my time in San Diego. This match could not have been more perfect. We had our own space which was comfortable and allowed me to easily care for my medical needs. It allowed opportunity for my parents and I do be together during this time and it relieved the burden of having to be away from home longer than expected. Hattie’s House really is a home away from home and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have stayed there.
To the organization who was there for me in a time of need. Hattie's House I can't thank you enough for all the help you have given me. I was diagnosed in March 2018 for breast cancer and it really took a toll on me I had radiation treatment and it was scheduled a distance from my home in Lake Elsinore CA and Monday through Friday treatments became difficult on me to drive. My Doctor was in Encinitas. My sister contacted Andy at Hattie's House after searching on the web looking through endless emails and calls to other places and she found Hattie's House and Andy called her back right away.
We were so blessed to have help in such short notice I was placed with a lovely family ( Jay & Carol ) near my Doctor and was able to get through my radiation. Thanks to Hattie's House I was safe and close to the doctor. I can't thank God and all who cared enough for me, my second family Jay & Carol wow!!!, including everyone else. I will continue to get through my journey with prayers and support, thanks to everyone and Andy thanks for having these homes for people going through a difficult battle with out your place I wouldn't have made it. Thanks so much again for your support and guidance and prayers. Thank you Andy, Jay & Carol !!! Love Margerite Gallegos and Family Lake Elsinore California
Hattie's House was such a blessing for my sister and me. I was required to travel across the country for surgery and was contacted by Andy from a referral he received. He and his wife, Laurie, offered us a room in their beautiful home to stay during our visit. This amazing family opened their home to us for four days and we felt so welcomed. They were so kind, helpful, and offered such a sense of peace during a stressful time. They even included us in their family dinner every night that we were there. Their children, Emma and Jacob, were polite and you could feel such a love and respect the whole family have for each other and their home. Their loving prayers and guidance helped us to make our stay and return home much easier. We are so thankful to Andy, Laurie, Emma, and Jacob for the graciousness and love they showed us during our stay.
Sincerely, Sherrie Zandstra
