Hattie's House provides free short-term housing in volunteer host homes and donated apartments for families and friends of patients seeking care at San Diego and Sutter Heath Sacramento - area healthcare organizations. This unique home-away-from-home experience has brought a compassionate response as well as emotional and financial relief to guests in need.
So in the midst of chaos we prayed and moved forward, "For we walk by faith, not by sight." opening up our 3rd and 4th fully furnished apartments in San Diego and Sacramento. Since April 2020 in the middle of everything that is happening we've been able to meet the needs of more families experiencing medical crisis. We feel so fortunate and blessed to stand in the gap and provide this much needed assistance.
To celebrate our 31 years in quarantine together
( anniversary ) we planned a weekend trip to Sacramento to open Hattie’s House newest apartment ... what an amazing trip that started with the long drive up with the van fully loaded to overflowing, to all the amazing people we met with and encouraged ... we arrived last Friday afternoon and started to unpack. Monday afternoon Ms. Juanita and her husband Richard checked into Hattie’s House!
Founded in San Diego, Hattie’s House is a not-for-profit organization that provides free short-term housing for families and friends of patients seeking care at healthcare organizations. In 2019, thanks in part to an investment by Sutter Health, Hattie’s House expanded its services to the Sacramento area.
Hattie’s House welcomed its first patient from Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento earlier this year. SMCS’s NICU, bone marrow transplant and heart specialty units now refer patients who qualify and are in need of housing services to Hattie’s House.
This home-away-from-home experience brings emotional and financial relief to patients in need.
Sutter will continue to work closely with Hattie’s House to connect patients to services. As Hattie’s Housing begins to expand its operations in Sacramento, it will work with community leaders and local partner organizations to secure volunteer host homes.
If you have questions about Hattie’s House or if you are interested in becoming a Hattie’s House host, please contact Keilani Paneda, community health coordinator, Sutter Health Valley Area.
